Shirley Anne Engels
of Dexter, Michigan, formerly of Grosse Pointe Farms, age 88, died Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Hartland Health Care Center in Ann Arbor. She was born October 2, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan , the daughter of Ludger & Ruth Cecelia (Cushman) St. Arnaud. Shirley graduated from Denby High School in Detroit in 1949. She loved to go boating on the Great Lakes and Lake St. Clair with her husband. She was a member of St. Stephen & St. Philip Episcopal Church in Detroit, and later Bethesda Church in Detroit. Elaine Jeanette Boyce of Ann Arbor, age 93, died Monday, February 17, 2020, at her daughter’s home. She was born December 18, 1926, in Chelsea, the daughter of Norman Harold & Lenore Eva Margarita (Kalmbach) Schmidt.James "Jim" Dean Tallman
of Chelsea, MI. James “Jim” Dean Tallman was born on December 14, 1945. He left our world and his illness behind on Sunday, February 16, 2020. Jim was a loving, caring, likeable guy who knew no enemies. He made lasting impressions wherever he went, whether it was out on the water fishing, enjoying 18 holes on the golf course, or spending time at the beach with his family. After graduating from MSU in 1969, Jim spent 34 years teaching and coaching at Chelsea High School, then retired to spend winters at Quail Run Resort, in Wesley Chapel, Florida. He traveled the US with his wife and family taking memorable camping and fishing trips throughout his life.
Leonard Michael Blaznek
of Chelsea, Michigan, age 85, died Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Chelsea Retirement Community, surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 28, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of John Michael & Eleanor Helen (Kozlowski) Blaznek. The family moved to Chelsea in 1949 and Leonard graduated from Chelsea High School in 1952. Leonard enlisted in the United States Army upon graduation from high school, serving for two years. He was deployed to Japan and honorably discharged. Leonard served as a City of Ann Arbor Firefigher for five years, and then worked for the Dana Corporation for 31 years as a machinist. During his 36 years of employment, he remained on the family farm and assisted his father in farming.
Beth Mattison
of Granger, IN, formerly of Chelsea, MI. Born August 1, 1962 in Aurora, IL to Bert and Sylvia (Stilson) Harrison (surviving), died February 9, 2020 in Roseland, IN, after a four year battle with ovarian cancer. Beth lived in Richmond, VA and South Bend, IN while growing up. She married Stephen Wayne Mattison on August 15, 1981 in South Bend, IN, and he survives. He was the love of her life. They had two children, Chris and Becca. She spent 6 years homeschooling her kids.
Beth earned an ADN and became an RN in January, 1989. She later earned an Associates Degree in Interior Design in 2011 and a BSN in 2014. She worked as a registered nurse for 18 years, and did medical transcription for 9 years.
Beth was devoted to God and loved serving in her church - the Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. She also served at the Chelsea Church of the Nazarene in MI, and loved her fellow churchgoers. She enjoyed teaching kids, working with VBS, and working in Women’s Ministry.
