Jane B. Korth

Jane Cornelia Blackman Korth passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Chelsea, Michigan at the age of 88. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Jane was born on November 16, 1929 in Bridgeton, New Jersey, the daughter of Paul and May (Smith) Blackman.  She grew up and attended high school in Alexandria, Virginia.  After receiving a B.A. degree from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia, she worked as a secretary at the Pentagon.  Jane married Merrill Walter Korth in 1955 and they shared 58 wonderful years together. Before retiring in 1989, she worked at Johnson Controls in Manchester, Michigan for ten years.  Jane was an avid walker, an enthusiastic reader and a lover of puzzles. She was fond of camping and enjoyed being surrounded by nature.  Jane was a proud member of Manchester United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Shakespeare Reading Club.  She helped create and maintain the tranquil meditation/memorial garden at Manchester United Methodist Church and her ashes will be placed there beside the ashes of her devoted husband, Merrill.

Marion Katherine Seel Hackley

Marion Katherine Seel Hackley was born on July 20,1926, in Mineola on Long Island, NewYork, to Louis Seel and Emma Ida (Schultz) Seel, immigrants from Germany. Her first language was German. In the public schools she learned to speak, read, and write English. Her father was a manager of A & P grocery stores, and in the 1930’s he moved the family to Tunbridge, Vermont, to run a small grocery store. Marion walked a mile to a two room schoolhouse. She remembered her mother becoming a U. S. citizen, wearing a dress she had sewn of red, white, and blue. The family regarded themselves as Americans with a German background.

John Francis Blaznek

of Jackson, formerly of Ann Arbor and Hanover, age 85, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in Jackson, Michigan. He was born August 24, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of John Michael & Eleanor Helen (Kozlowski) Blaznek.

John graduated from Chelsea High School in 1951. He worked numerous jobs including Boeing Aircraft of Seattle, Washington, he flew a Piper single engine plane from Washington to Michigan, and was a pilot for Zantop International Airlines and Universal Airlines in Willow Run Airport. John spent 5 years as a police officer for Ann Arbor Police and 2 years as a Washtenaw County Deputy. His last job was hauling steel for Capital Cartage in Detroit. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostkas in Jackson. John enjoyed camping with his daughter at D.H. Day Campground in Glen Arbor.

Barbara Morrison Springborn

Barbara Springbornof Chelsea, Michigan, age 93, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at StoryPoint Memory Care in Saline, Michigan. She was born June 28, 1924 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was the daughter of Thomas and Minnie (Stimson) Morrison. Barbara also lived in both Charlevoix, MI and Miami, FL as a child. She graduated from Miami High School and joined the WAVES in the US Navy during World War II. Barbara attended the University of Michigan for 1 year and then graduated from Michigan State University in 1949 on the GI Bill. On September 29,1949, she married Frederick Springborn at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC,  and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2009. They were married for 60 years.

Robert Ralph Merck

Robert Merckof Livonia, MI, age 82, died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at University of Michigan Hospital. He was born December 23, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Rolf Nils & Evelyn Louise (Neibert) Merck. Robert attended high school at Cass Technical in Detroit and then worked for Chrysler as an electrician for over 45 years.  Robert also served in the US Army from 1962 to 1964, earning the rank of Sergeant.

On September 7, 1967, he married Helen Marozi in Detroit, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 2001. Robert is survived by a daughter, Doreen Herrin, a grandchild, John Edward Gilbert, and 2 great-grandchildren Matthew and Gracie. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Brown.
