Deborah "Debbie" E. (Miller) Walker

Sadly, Our loving wife, mom, grammie passed away at age 69, on Monday, September 11, 2017 surrounded by her loving  family at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti.  She was born October 21,1947 in Belleville, Michigan, the daughter of Lloyd Miller and Aprilla "Rubye" (Ulbick) Bates. Debbie graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1966.  On July 1, 1967 she married Aram "David" Walker of Ann Arbor, Michigan.  A few years later, after the birth of their twins sons, she started an in home day care to stay home with her children.  She ran her daycare in Chelsea for over 25 years.  She loved caring for kids and was a huge part of many children's lives.  Parents always marveled at how she could accomplish so much and had such respect from all the children, and how sandwiches NEEDED to be cut "the Debbie way" and her chocolate chip cookies were to die for.  She also worked at Pamida in Chelsea for many years. Debbie loved camping, especially at her favorite location in Ludington during the summer.  She was the "fun grammie" to all.

Robert Butler

of Chelsea, passed away at the age of 86 on September 8, 2017 with loving family by his side. Robert, the son of Ishmael and Mildred (Turnquist) Butler, was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 2, 1931. He grew up in Livonia, graduated from Plymouth High School, and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. On August 20, 1955, he married Doris Gilson and moved to Chelsea. Robert worked for Dana Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling, fishing, visiting casinos, and spending time at their cabin in northern Michigan.

Jerry G. Schuon

Jerry SchuonAge 86, died peacefully August 28, 2017 in his home with his family at his side. He was born April 13, 1931 in Carleton, Michigan, the son of Oscar & Clara (Heiss) Schuon.  Jerry was valedictorian of the first graduating class at Airport High School.  He served in the US Army from 1955-1957, and later attended the University of Michigan, earning his Master’s Degree.  He was a teacher at Lincoln Park and retired in 1989 from Trenton School District after 31 years.  Jerry served as Chairman of the Math Department for 20 years.  He was on the Airport School Board for 24 years, as well as the ISD Board from 1998 to 2012.  Jerry supported the 4H large animal club for 46 years.  He also was the announcer for the girls and boys basketball games at the Airport School and Trenton High School for 6 years.

Elizabeth Joan Herrst

of Chelsea, MI. age 87, died Saturday, September 9, 2017 at her son's home. She was born March 9, 1930 at her parents’ home on Jerusalem Road, the daughter of Rudolph & Euna A. (Fiegel) Zahn.

Mrs. Herrst  was a lifetime resident of the Chelsea/Ann Arbor area.  She attended St. Thomas Lutheran Church for many years and was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Chelsea.  Mrs. Herrst was a member of the Chelsea High School class of 1948.  She worked at the United Methodist Retirement Home, then Mercywood, and finally retired from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after 18 years.  Elizabeth also worked on the farm most of her life.  She made many cakes (including wedding cakes for her children & grandchildren), volunteered 100s of hours for Chelsea Community Hospital, and donated her time and over 100 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.

Mary Cichon

of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Detroit, age 93, died Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born July 5, 1924 in Poland, the daughter of Walter & Frances (Ryl) Wawrzyniak.  Mary was a volunteer at Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Hamtramck, St Hyacinth in Detroit, and St. Mary Orchard Lake. She enjoyed cooking, gardening vegetables, flowers and herbs, canning, music and dancing.  

She married Walter Cichon on July 16, 1946 in Germany, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Christine (Jerry) Wilczynski of Chelsea, Wanda (Bob) Redys of Sterling Heights; 5 grandchildren, Amy Cichon, Christopher Cichon, Mathew (Arelis) Wilczynski, Jerome (Rollen Cooper) Wilczynski, Renee (Sean) Redys-Lynch; 4 great-grandchildren, Jakob and Leah Wilczynski, Madison Lynch, Mazie Lake; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Walter, Mary was preceded in death by  a son, John.
