Betty Jeanne Jacobs

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 82, died Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Kresge Healthcare and Rehab Center. She was born December 27, 1939 in Nashville, Michigan, the daughter of Albert Joseph & Mary Alvadena (Feighner) Bell.  Betty earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Michigan State University.  On August 22, 1964, she married fellow MSU graduate, Gary Douglas Jacobs.  Betty was an art teacher at Grand Blanc High School, and retired from Powers Catholic High School as their architectural and mechanical drawing teacher. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Blanc. For many years, she volunteered for the March of Dimes March for Babies walk. She enjoyed artistic pursuits, such as drawing and painting, pottery, basket weaving and quilting. She made every house a home in Flint, Grand Blanc, Jenison, and Chelsea, Michigan; and in Cocoa, Florida.

Shirley Ann Taylor

Of Dexter, Michigan. At age 75, passed away after a decade long battle against cancer on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born September 26, 1946 in Pikeville, Kentucky, the daughter of Joseph & Lillian (Mullins) Anderson.

Shirley spent many years working in the Chelsea School District. She worked in the lunch room at North Creek and Beach Middle schools, and she retired after several years as a school bus driver for Chelsea schools. Shirley was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church for many years.

Joan N. Maier

Of Chelsea, Michigan. age 90, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born February 19, 1932 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, the daughter of Rexford H. and Irma (Wells) Fluno.

Joan graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and moved to Ann Arbor before marrying Red, then to Chelsea in 1972. Joan worked in accounting for the University of Michigan. She was a volunteer at Chelsea Community Hospital. Joan enjoyed playing cards, quilting and knitting; and loved to travel with family.

Dr. Gene T. Miller

Of Chelsea, MI, formerly of Brooklyn, Grass Lake, & Paw Paw. Age 85, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Legacy Assisted Living in Jackson. He was born September 6, 1936 in Detroit, MI, the son of George and Wilma (Lancaster) Miller.

Gene graduated from Paw Paw High School. He then earned his bachelors from Western Michigan University and his Doctorate of Dentistry from University of Michigan. He served as a dentist in the US Air Force from 1960-62. Gene moved to Chelsea in 1972, and worked as a dentist in town until his retirement in 2001. He was an active member of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club. Gene enjoyed singing in the church choir, golfing, running, hiking, and traveling, especially with his children to Lake Michigan, and going to the “Blue Dog.”

Elaine Marie Knickerbocker

Age 97, died Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born July 2, 1925 in Norway, MI, the daughter of Vines & Jennie (Burm) Bernard.

Elaine graduated from Norway High School in 1942, and attended Cleary College in 1943. In 1959 she moved to Chelsea. Elaine was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She retired from Springer Insurance at the age of 65. Elaine enjoyed her family, friends, reading, and gardening. She also enjoyed playing cards with several different groups and loved to travel. She was a member of the Chelsea Woman’s Club and the Altar Society.
