Virginia Ann Johnson

of Chelsea, Michigan.  Virginia Ann (Hathaway) Johnson passed away in her home on Nov. 8th at the age of 89. One of the "Greatest Generation",  Jinny was born September 16th,  1926 in Holt, MI and lived through the era of the great depression and WWII. At a post war dance in Six Lakes,  her beautiful auburn hair attracted the notice of her true love, Gilford and they were married on September 7th, 1946. Jinny and Gil spent their honeymoon years in Leland,  an area she loved to revisit. They moved several times before finally settling in Chelsea the summer of 1968. She was an assistant sportswear buyer for Milliken's Department store in Traverse City. She also worked several years in the Chelsea State Farm office.

Lora Joyce Clayton

of Howell, MI, age 81, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Howell, Michigan. She was born December 19, 1933 in Harlan County, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert & Nora (Anderson) Barton. Lora attended the Baptist Church. She married Charles Clayton, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, James (Kim) Szegi, of Highland, MI, Richard “Karl” (Trisha) Szegi, of Jacksonville, FL; her daughter, Nancy Jo (Dennis) Irish of Chelsea; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Jerry and Johnny Barton.

Mary Ellen Craft

of Ann Arbor, Michigan, age 74, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 30, 2015. She was born March 4, 1941 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Awbery & Ruth Elizabeth (Mattison) Whitfield.

  Mary Ellen graduated from Pioneer High School in 1959.  She most recently worked at Busch's in Dexter, and previously at Lowes in Scio Township, Sarns, and the Ann Arbor Police Department. Mary Ellen loved playing cards, working puzzles, and was also an avid reader and hot air balloon enthusiast.

Duane Rowe

of Chelsea, age 94, died Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Ganton’s Countryside Care Center. He was born January 6, 1921 in Lyndon Township, Michigan, the son of Floyd D. & Selma M. Rowe.Duane spent his working life as a farmer, well driller, and Master Plumber.  He had a study group for the Masters exam at his kitchen table in 1959 with two other local plumbers, Mr. Herman and Mr. Robert Shears. Duane was a past Grand Knight of the Chelsea Knights of Columbus Council 3092. 

Gerald E. "Duff" Duffey

of Chelsea, MI,  formerly of Warren, age 83, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born October 12, 1932 in Detroit, the son of Edward Nicholas & Genevieve “Alice” (Boland) Duffey.  Duff was a test and field engineer for Federal Mogul for 38½ years in Detroit and Ann Arbor before retiring in December of 1994. He was a US Army Veteran, and he served in the Korean War from 1949-1952 in the 7th Infantry, earning the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze battle stars.  Duff spent his young days in Wolverine, MI with his grandparents, where he learned to enjoy hunting, fishing, bear watching. Duff took pride in landscaping and taking care of his home, and even won a home tour award. He loved dogs, and had more than 20 pet dogs over the years, including his current dog, Maggie.
