Obituaries

of Stockbridge, MI, formerly of Dowagiac, Ann Arbor, and Burbank, CA, age 58, died Saturday, January 21, 2017 at her home with her family at her side. She was born February 2, 1958 in Dowagiac, Michigan, the daughter of Robert & Rosemary (Trowbridge) Sprague.

Becky went to school in Dowagiac and spent her senior year at Interlochen. She earned her undergraduate degree in art at the University of Michigan. Becky worked in the Advertising Art Department at the Ann Arbor News. She then went to Washtenaw Community College and became an RN. Eventually, she worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit in Ann Arbor. In 1998, she moved with her family to Burbank, CA, where she worked in the NICU at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. In 2015, they returned to Michigan, moving to Stockbridge so they could keep their horses, Festus and Belle, at their home. Becky returned to St. Joe until she was stricken with cancer. A life-long horse lover, she belonged  to a horse camping group in California called “The Hoof Pack."  She loved to cook and bake, and enjoyed making homemade pizza for her family. She will be missed, especially at family Pizza Night.

She married Feza Akcasu. He survives, along with a son, Bryan Scott and Laura Akcasu of Berkley, MI; and a daughter, Audrey Lynn Akcasu of Brighton, MI.

A private service will be held at their home on Saturday, January 28. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Cancer Center. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
