of Chelsea, MI, formerly of Punta Gorda, FL & Ypsilanti, MI, age 95, died Friday, October 23, 2015 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born July 9, 1920 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the daughter of Paul & Nellie (Casselberry) Chapman. Gladys graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1939, and then attended beauty school. She worked in Ypsilanti and worked at the Blue Wig in Ann Arbor for many years. Gladys and Rod built a home on Belleville Lake and had many friends there. In 1980, Gladys and Rod retired to Punta Gorda, Florida, where they enjoyed boating and fishing. Gladys loved to cook for her family and friends. She was a very active member of the Peace River Sail and Power Squadron in Punta Gorda. They left many friends when hurricane Charlie destroyed their home and sent them back to Michigan in 2004. Gladys was very close to her family who helped her through good and bad times.
On September 21, 1941, she married Rodney Mast, and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2006. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Charles (Marsha) Ash of Anchorage, AK; Steven (Masae) Ash of Billings, MT; Cynthia (Richard) Bousley of Dexter, Ralph (Nancy) Chapman of Ypsilanti, Mark (Shirlee) Chapman of Ypsilanti, Linda (Jack) Freeman of Mt Pleasant, MI, Nancy (Joe) Kooperman of Brighton, MI, Gary Wolter of MI; her sisters-in-law Jean (Fred) Wolter of Brighton, and Donna Chapman of Ypsilanti; as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Chapman, her sister, Helen (William) Coxford, her nephew, Craig Chapman.
A memorial service was held Monday, November 23, at 11:00 am at the Chelsea Retirement Community Chapel, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. The family received friends Monday the hour before the memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations made be made to the Chelsea First United Methodist Church or Silver Maples of Chelsea.
