of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Latham, New York. Age 90, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, in Jackson, Michigan. She was born January 31, 1934, in Namyang, North Korea, the daughter of Chunsuk Lee and Soon Hee Kim.
Young Ai married Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Shinn on May 10, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2015. She is survived by two sons, Andrew (Elizabeth) Shinn of Los Angeles, California, and Timothy (Elizabeth “Liz” Pielsticker) Shinn of Dexter; two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Brendan Shinn; three siblings, Young Kwan Lee in Los Angeles, California, Young Sun of Seoul, Korea, and Young Uk Lee of Seoul, Korea. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Young Chang Lee and Young Da Lee.
Young Ai went to South Korea when she was 12 years old and graduated from Chang Tuk Girls High School in 1945. She then studied dentistry at the Seoul National University and worked at the Severance Hospital in Seoul, Korea. Young Ai came to the U.S. in 1963, and worked at the Guggenheim Dental Clinic in New York City. In 1965, she worked at the Eastman Dental Center and then the Strong Memorial Hospital Dental Clinic, both in Rochester, New York. Young Ai became a Pastor's wife when she married Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Shinn in 1946. Young Ai was very active in her work with the United Presbyterian Women, working at the national level for 3 years. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, making clothes for her son and even winning a blue ribbon at a fair in Iowa. With a family of musicians, she sang semi-professionally.
A memorial service was held Monday, January 6, 2025, 3:30 p.m. at Silver Maples of Chelsea, with Rev. Jeff Crowder officiating. Her family received friends immediately after the memorial service. Burial will be at Albany Rural Cemetery in Albany, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Ln., Troy, NY 12180. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, MI & Bryce Funeral Home in Troy, NY.
