Obituaries

of Grass Lake, Michigan, formerly of Strawberry Squares in Plant City, Florida, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, age 95, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice in Jackson. He was born April 22, 1929, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of George Leonard and Edith (Cunningham) Talbot.

Ron attended Ann Arbor High School before enlisting in the Army on April 24, 1946.  After basic training in Leesburg, LA, Ron shipped out to Yokohama Harbor, and then to the 28th Station Hospital in Osaka, Japan where he was trained to be a surgical technician.  Ron reenlisted and spent a total of three years working in the hospital before returning home to Ann Arbor February 1949.  Ron held various jobs and then worked for the University of Michigan Athletic Department and was the Assistant Equipment Manager for Michigan varsity sports. This was a dream job and where his love for the U of M flourished.  After several years, Ron then went to a small startup, Sarns Inc., on North Main street.  Soon after, Sarns, Inc., moved to a newly constructed facility on Jackson Road.  Sarns developed one of the first ever blood pumps and lung machines, that enabled open heart surgery, and they needed Ron to help develop the Quality Control department.  Later Sarns, Inc. was sold to 3M Medical, where Ron remained in charge of Quality Control. He retired in 1993. Ron enjoyed square dancing with Alice throughout Michigan and then at Strawberry Squares in Plant City, FL. where they relocated after retirement.  He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor in his later years but was formerly active with Hope Lutheran Church in Plant City and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Ann Arbor. Ron loved to read, and loved the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Red Wings and just about every other sport, especially fishing. Ron was known for his faith and his love for Alice, their children and his family.

Ron married Alice Leila Jones on February 25, 1950, in Ann Arbor. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2023. He is survived by his son, Gary (Pam) Talbot of Jackson; daughter, Susan K. Marshall of Dexter; three grandchildren, Becky Geer (and her children, Michael Geer, Rachel (Devin) Markonni and their daughter Lucy Markonni, and Jeffrey Geer), Sarah Schimelfening (and her children, Kyle, Cory and Tyler), and Evelyn & Joel Rosentreter (and their children, Savanah and Jillian); and brother, Don Talbot of Fenton. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Gerry Marshall; Sister-in-law, JoAnn Talbot, brothers, Mike Talbot, Jim Talbot, and Bob Talbot; and sister, Betty Talbot.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 14, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor with Pastor Andy Pronsati officiating. Burial followed at Arborcrest Memorial Park in Ann Arbor. The family received friends Sunday, October 13, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea; and Monday, at the church from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, https://www.alz.org/.

Dear Pam and Gary
I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I know you will miss him especially as a fishing partner (Pam has told me stories). I am holding you close to my heart today!

We have so many fond memories of Mama and Papa Talbot. Ron and Alice were such kind people, always making everyone feel welcome. I remember many Michigan summertime fish fries, amazing Thanksgiving family events, and UofM football Saturdays, we always felt like family. Ron was a problem solver and a kind man who loved his family dearly. We send our love and condolences to Gary, Pam, Sue and all of the Talbot family. With great love, Jim, Mary, Evan, and Cara.
