Obituaries

of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA and Buffalo, New York, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Silver Maples of Chelsea. Betty Ann was born August 23, 1926, to John Armstrong Young and Anna Mae (Kelly) Young in Oakdale, Pennsylvania. Betty Ann graduated from Oakdale High School and Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA.

Betty Ann worked in Pittsburgh before her marriage and after the family was raised. She and three friends owned Paper Parade in Plymouth, MI.

She enjoyed flower arranging and the competition of flower shows. She was Past President of the Farmington Garden Club, an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, a reader for the blind, active in PTA and on several committees at Silver Maples. She loved Northern Michigan and especially the Frankfort summer place and the good times with family and friends.

Betty Ann married her high school sweetheart, Harve Sohn Bock in 1947. They were married 71 years before he preceded her in death on February 12, 2019. Betty Ann is survived by son, Douglas (Carol) Bock; a daughter, Ann (Edward) Martin; grandchildren, Katherine (Andrew) Leaf, Lauren (Justin) Roley, Caroline Martin, Chrissie Bock, Nicholas (Rachel) Bock; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jay Bock; and sister, Nancy Young-Blanchard.

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 21, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at Silver Maples of Chelsea with Rev. Jeff Crowder and Rev. Emily Campbell officiating. Her ashes will be interred in a niche at First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, please consider The First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, 701 Church St., Plymouth, MI 48170 or The Silver Lining Fund of Silver Maples, 100 Silver Maples Dr., Chelsea, MI 48118. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
