Obituaries

of Ann Arbor, Michigan, age 92, was called home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at her home under hospice care, surrounded by her family. She was born September 18, 1931, in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of Aubury and Ruth (Mattison) Whitfield.

Pat graduated from Ann Arbor High School, class of 1949. She worked as a secretary at many places including Mitchell School in Ann Arbor for many years. She worked for Creative Circle and sold Tupperware. Pat was a long-term member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Ann Arbor, where she was active in the Members Care Committee, the “King's Daughters” group, and a church knitting group. She knit scarves for veterans, hats for newborns, and cancer patients, and prayer shawls. Pat and Gary spent many years traveling in their trailer with their camping group, the “Pleasure Seekers”; and were snowbirds, going to Florida for the winters. Pat had a very big heart and loved to give.

Pat married Gary Richard Hentz July 25, 1953, and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2013. She is survived by her son, Jack W. (Cindy) Hentz II of Rosenberg, Texas; her daughter, Karen Sue (David) Packard of Merrimack, New Hampshire; sister, Lucy Kuligowski; four grandchildren, Christopher, Sandra, Sarah, and Brian; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Evelyn, Samantha, and Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Pat was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David; and sisters, Sally, Nancy, and Mary.

A memorial service for Pat was held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 South 4th St, Ann Arbor, MI  48104.  Memorial donations may be made to the Washtenaw Community College Foundation (Gary & Pat Hentz Endowment Fund), Student Center 304, 4800 E. Huron Dr, Ann Arbor, MI  48105, Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, or Bethlehem United Church of Christ (YouTube Fund), 423 S. Forth Ave, Ann Arbor, MI  48104.   A private burial will be held at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor.
