Of Chelsea, Michigan, age 76, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 23, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born October 12, 1946 in Ann Arbor, Michigan , the son of Aram S. & Emma “Ann” (Kent) Walker Schindler Vaughn.

David fondly grew up at his grandmother, Wanda (Alva) Walker’s home with his aunt Carol on the corner of Golfside and Washtenaw in a beautiful brick home where he and Debbie were married. He graduated from Pioneer High School in 1964. He joined the Army, serving at Cameron Bay in Vietnam. David began working for Michigan Bell as a telephone splicer technician in December of 1966. He proudly worked for them for 38 years, and then worked at Pamida in Chelsea until the store closed. He was a member of the American Legion. David enjoyed hunting, camping, working on outdoor projects, and spending time with his family. He was very involved with his children’s activities, running the fun fairs at South Elementary School, and joining all of his children’s field trips. He loved building floats for his children for the annual Chelsea parades. David loved kids, and helped his wife, Debbie with her in-home daycare. He had a kind, loving heart, always willing to help out in any way. He never let his children feel like they were going without, and loved to spoil his grandchildren. He and Debbie welcomed everyone with open arms.

On July 1, 1967 he married Deborah Miller, and they spent 50 years together before she preceded him in death on September 11, 2017. Together they raised three sons, David Walker of Grass Lake, Duane (Florida) Walker of Brooklyn, Daniel (Celinda) Walker of Yankton, SD, and one daughter, Dena (Eric) Sommer of Stockbridge; 8 grandchildren, Brendan, Scott, Kaitelyn, Sydney, Brett and Victoria Walker and Chase and Parker Sommer; two great-grandchildren, Lola and Oakley Walker; two sisters, Barbara (Jerry) McMullen of Cottonwood, AZ, Dawn (David) Carney of Chandler, AZ; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Walker; and a sister, and Beverly (Chester) Griffin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 29, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 28, 3-7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or Vietnam Veterans of America.

My fondest memory of my uncle David was, he would pick me up on Friday nights after he got off work. He would take me to his house for the weekend to spend with Debbie and the kids. He never once told me no, that it was too much of a bother. And when we ride out to his house he would turn the radio up loud and danced in his chair and sing along with the radio. We would both giggle and have a great time on the trip to his house.
