Obituaries

Of Chelsea, Michigan, age 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Silver Maples of Chelsea. She was born October 14, 1930, in Hillsdale, Michigan, the daughter of Harry and Eunice (Ensign) Foust.

Betty was a cashier at the Five and Dime in Hillsdale before starting her family. She was a food service worker at Chelsea High School from 1967 until she retired in 1993. Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting, playing Euchre, and visiting casinos. Betty loved to bake, including her specialties, raisin-filled cookies and buckeye balls.


On December 24, 1950, she married Donald R. Young, and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2013. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Parr of Chelsea; a son, Thomas (Joan) Young of Bettendorf, IA; 4 grandchildren, Emily (Jeff) McHale, Zachary Young, Stephanie Young and Nicholas (Taylor) Young; two great-granddaughters, Aranka McHale, Scarlett McHale; a great-grandson, Beckett Young; and her last of seven siblings, Glen Foust of Hillsdale. She was preceded in death by a son, John “Randy” Young; and a son-in-law, Stanley Parr.

Private services were held at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. Burial took place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Chelsea, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 3050 S. Fletcher Road, Chelsea, MI 48118.
