of Chelsea, MI, age 93, died Thursday, September 21, 2017 in Falls Church,Virginia. He was born December 14, 1923 in Remus, Michigan, the son of Alonzo & Agnes (Doerr) Simon. Paul served with the Army in WWII, landing at Normandy on D-Day. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Chelsea. He taught for 34 years, teaching agriculture in central Michigan and wood shop and science at Beach Middle School in Chelsea for 18 years. Paul traveled extensively in and outside of the U.S. He wrote poetry, and was very proud of his full head of white hair.
On August 13, 1955, he married Loraine Rose Hadd in Linwood, Michigan, and she preceded him in death on March 31, 2012. He is survived by his sons, Edward Rivard, Douglas Simon, Andrew “Randy” Simon, and Joseph Simon; his daughters, Linda Stegmeyer, Karen Wellnitz, and Beverly Gibson; his brother, Raymond Simon; his sisters, Noreen Bradfield and Edna Michaud;18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Imelda Smith and Beatrice Rhode; and a brother, Jerome Simon.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, with the V. Rev. Dr. William J. Canon Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends before the funeral from 10-11 am. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
