JEAN MARIAN (MYERS) BARTO

August 25, 1940 to February 15, 2022

TRAVERSE CITY– Jean Barto, formerly of Washington, D.C. and Detroit, died at the Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea, on Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

Jean and Dick married in a joint Episcopal-Roman Catholic ceremony in Farmington Hills on May 22, 1982. Jean graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in International Politics and did post-graduate work in Michigan.

She worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, Department of Housing and Urban Development and United States Marshals Service. At the Marshals Service Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, she headed the Real Estate Branch of the Asset Forfeiture unit and retired from it with highest honors. She grew up in Washington, D.C. and later lived in Juneau, Chicago, Detroit, northern Virginia, and Bloomfield Twp. She traveled in the Middle East, Europe, Britain, the Caribbean, and throughout the United States.

Phyllis Ann Stutzman

Of Hudson, MI, age 86, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Chelsea. She was born August 6, 1935 in Stella, KY, the daughter of George and Katie (Dunn) Lovely.

Phyllis had resided in the Chelsea area since 1954. She was a member of the New Hope Assembly of God Church in Hudson.

On December 24, 1955, she married Wayne Leslie Stutzman in Detroit, MI, and he preceded her in death on February 22, 2007.

Clayton A. Colebar

 
of Latham, IL, age 77, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at his daughter's home in Chelsea, Michigan. He was born June 23, 1944 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Anthony W. & Beulah M. (Howard) Colebar.  Clay was an Army Veteran, serving in active duty from 1962-1965. He lived in Latham, IL, and was a self-employed carpet installer for 50 years, finally retiring at the age of 70. He loved his family, friends, and especially his grand/great grandchildren, so very much. Clay enjoyed electric trains and putting models together. He would spend hours working on his giant electric train layout, complete with towns, cars, people, trees, mountains, tunnels, bridges, and lakes. He also enjoyed old war and western movies, and his tomato garden.
 

Mary Beth Chandler

age 64, of Littleton CO, formerly of Chelsea, MI. Mary Beth passed away December 31, 2021, with her sisters by her side after a long and courageous battle with a rare form of melanoma. Mary Beth was born at Women’s Hospital in Ann Arbor on April 7, 1957, the daughter of William and Marilyn Chandler of Chelsea.

She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1975. The seeds of her career were planted her senior year when she became the Chelsea Police Department’s afternoon dispatcher. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1979 with a degree in Criminal Justice, and three days later packed her car to move to Colorado where she lived for the rest of her life. Her 37-year career took her in many unique directions. She was one of the first female officers for the Englewood, CO Police Department.

John Dennis Posegay

of Chelsea, Michigan, 63 years old, was born July 5, 1958 in Superior Township to John Stephen Posegay and Evelyn Gertrude Posegay. He married Valerie Anne Theobald in 1983. John joined his Heavenly Father on Friday, February 11, 2022 after a courageous battle against tongue cancer. John grew up in Westland, Saline, Milan, and Chelsea. He grew up with a Christian Faith.

John retired from Washtenaw County Road Commission after 27 years of service. He started as a mechanic and retired as an Inspector and Weighmaster. Prior to that, he worked as a mechanic at Complete Auto Transit in Willow Run and at Woods Dairy Farm in Saline. He received his Associate’s Degree in Heavy Duty Mechanics from Ferris State College.
