Chelsea, Michigan, age 95, died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born May 28, 1918 in McClusky, North Dakota, the daughter of Rudolph George & Dagne Viola (Kjelstrup) Glarum.
Elaine was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota, and earned her Master's degree from Garrett Biblical Institute in Chicago. She had lived in McClusky, ND; Sitka, AK; Chicago, IL; Saginaw, Iron Mountain, Garden City, Fenton, Bay City, Flint, Lathrup Village, Southfield, Chelsea, MI; and had a summer home in Bay View, MI. Elaine was a Director of Christian Education, a kindergarten teacher in Flint, MI, and a member of United Methodist Women and PEO. Together Eskil and Elaine traveled extensively throughout the United States and to many places around the world.
On August 22, 1948, she married Rev. Eskil Henry Fredrickson, and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2003. She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Dennis) Ostyn, Lois (Mark) Leiper; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Strandell, Melva (Glarum) Wittala; five grandchildren, Daniel (Whitney), Jonathan (Tiffany), Kyle (Tereasa), Nichole (Brooke), Sarah ; six great-grandchildren, Domonic, Cooper, Paisley, Jrue and two babies due in 2014.; and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Norman, and brothers-in-law Stanley Fredrickson and Robert Strandell, and Eskil’s parents Victor and Lydia Fredrickson.
A memorial service was held Sunday, June 1, 2:00 pm at the Main Chapel of Chelsea Retirement Community, with Rev. Cathy Rafferty officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Children’s Home Society (26645 W. 6 Mile Rd, Redford Charter Township, MI 48240).
