of Chelsea, age 79, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his home. He was born February 2, 1933 in Chelsea, the son of George F. & Ruby M. (Hadley) Bauer Jr.


Norm was a member of the Chelsea High School class of 1953.  While at CHS, he placed 4th in the state in the 440 yard dash.  Norm served in the US Air Force in Korea.  He owned Norm's Body Shop for many years.  Norm was a member of the Chelsea Police Auxiliary, Chelsea Kiwanis Club, and Chelsea Rod & Gun Club.  He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where he served on the Church Council and sang in the choir.  Norm was an avid supporter of Chelsea athletics and music.  He was a founding member of Chelsea Area Players and the Purple Rose Theatre.  Norm was a farmer all of his life, and was the 3rd generation on his homestead.

 


On May 18, 1957, he married Gail Provance in Chelsea, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Dennis (Susan) of Chelsea, Bartley (Alisa) of Chelsea, a daughter, Gayla (Tor) Bauer Blaisdell of Ellensburg, WA; three brothers, Walter (Jayne), Robert (Mary), Donald (Lelia); one sister, Barbara (Charley) Fredette; he was “Granddad” to 7 grandchildren, Darl (Carly) Bauer, Cal Bauer, Adam Bauer, Devyn Bauer, Nathan Bauer, Tristan Blaisdell, Lydia Blaisdell; and many extended family members.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 21, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Chelsea, with Pastor Jim Coyl officiating. Burial took place at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.  The family received friends Sunday from Noon - 5:00 at Cole Funeral Chapel, and Monday 10-11 am at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to St Paul United Church of Christ or the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
