Age 82, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Timber Ridge Senior Assisted Living Facility in East Lansing. She was born April 8, 1930 in Royalton, KY, the daughter of Henry & Maggie (Elam) Lewis.

Eileen was a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church. She was retired from Federal Screw Works in Chelsea. She enjoyed her time in Sarasota, Florida, as well as gardening, flowers, and cooking.

On July 1, 1946, she married Marvin E. Salyer, and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2010. Survivors include a daughter, Denise (Michael) Long of Chelsea, grandchildren Katy (Derek) Summers of Holland, MI., Cara Long of Kalamazoo, Scott (Amy) Long of Longmont, Co., as well as devoted extended family members, Sheila (Michael) Hughes of East Lansing; grandchildren, Andrew (Penny) Hughes, Geoffrey (Katie) Hughes, Sean (Tiffany) Hughes; great-grandchildren, Sarah & Mitchell Long, Alex & Andrew Jr. Hughes, Olivia & Michael Hughes; two brothers, Joe(Linda) Lewis of NM, John David Lewis of DeLand, FL. and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Keith E. Salyer in 1972, as well as her parents, a brother, Paul Lewis, and a sister, Clara Madge Scott.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the extremely devoted caregivers at Timber Ridge Assisted Living Facility.

A memorial service was held Saturday, January 26, 2013, 11:00 am at the Chelsea United Methodist Church, with Rev. Stephen Ezop (Spiritual Care Coodinator for Heartland Hospice) officiating. The family received friends Saturday, January 26, from 10-11 am. A private burial was held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea First United Methodist Church,  128 Park Street  Chelsea, MI 48118.  Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel.
