Age 81, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at Care Link of Jackson. He was born February 2, 1931 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Lewis H. & Laura C. (Gutekunst) Egeler.
Douglas served in the Marine corp and was a Korean and Atomic war veteran. He was a member of American 
Legion Post #31 and the VFW. Douglas had owned Egeler Excavating. He retired from Operating Engineers Local 324 after more than 20 years. Douglas enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He married Barbara Weir in Ohio on November 22, 1950 and she survives. Other survivors include his son Douglas (Sandra) Egeler of Chelsea; and three grandchildren, Derek Egeler, Adam Egeler, and Mandie (Zach) Porter; two brothers, Raymond Egeler of Chelsea, Erwin (Ann) Egeler of Dexter; a sister, May Hardy of Ann Arbor. Douglas was preceded in death by one son, Richard Egeler and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel. Burial followed at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea. The family received friends on Monday, July 30, from 4-8 pm.
