Obituaries

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel Raymond Milliken (Dan), a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Dan departed this life on March 5, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and cherished memories.

Dan’s love for the great outdoors wasn’t just a hobby but his lifeblood. From the shores of the Caribbean islands to long lining in Alaska with his brother and best friend to the serene lakeshores of Michigan, he found solace and joy in Mother Nature's embrace. His love for the wilderness was a way of life, shaping his character and nurturing his soul.

Dan’s dedication to living authentically and in harmony with the natural world was unparalleled. His passion for pure living was evident in every aspect of his being, from his commitment to sustainable practices to his unwavering respect for all living creatures.

A man of endless energy, enthusiasm and determination, Dan was an avid runner which his father inspired at an early age. His adventurous spirit knew no bounds, whether camping beneath the stars, hiking along rugged trails, or kayaking the tranquil waters, Dan found bliss in the simplicity of outdoor living.

But above all else, Dan’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. Dan was fortunate to find and marry his wife of 21 years, who shared his passions and was part of so many of Dan’s adventures. Dan cherished every moment spent with his loved ones and friends, creating memories that will live forever in the hearts of those he left behind.

Though Dan may have bid farewell, his spirit will forever linger in the rustle of the leaves, the whisper of the wind, and the laughter of loved ones gathering around a bonfire. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life of Daniel Raymond Milliken – a man whose love for his family, passion for the outdoors, and zest for adventure will continue to inspire us.

Dan was predeceased by his loving mother, Katherine Johanna Smith, who was his touchstone and guiding star throughout his life. He is survived by his loving wife Angie, his brother Nathan Milliken (Nerissa), his father Donald E. Milliken II (Sharon), his nieces Johanna and Sydney Milliken, and a multitude of other family and friends.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on May 14, 2024, at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, Mi. The family will receive guests beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be provided. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Michigan Bluebird Society.

We met Dan and Angie at an outdoor camping concert and kept up through Angie's Facebook. We saw them again at another outdoor event (the murder endurance race).
We loved his smile and his energy. To say we are sorry doesn't begin to capture the sincere sadness and loss.
We send lift, love and strength to those with aching hurting hearts.
