Obituaries

of Ann Arbor, Michigan, age 90, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at his home. He was born March 25, 1926 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Harold C. and Emma (Ash) Baker.  Howard spent his childhood in Ann Arbor, playing sports at Allmendinger Park. He was a graduate from Ann Arbor High School, and took college classes at the University of Michigan. He was in the Army Air Force from 1944-1948 during World War II. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Chelsea. Howard owned Ulrich's Book Inc. for 41 years. He is a 50-year ticket holder for Michigan football and basketball.  Howard played semi-pro baseball at U of M. He enjoyed traveling, especially through Europe and South East Asia. Howard picked grapes in Bordeaux, France.  

On January 13, 1951, Howard married Donna Lee Chapman, and she preceded him in death in July 1985. He is survived by two sons, Steven (Tena) Baker, Brent (Melane) Baker; 3 grandchildren, Megan (Peter) Kolasinski, Erin (Milo) Jones, Michael Baker; 5 great-grandchildren, Leah, Logan, Anthony, Alyssa, and Trace. A special thanks to Howard’s best friends Robert, Jim, Ron, Milt, Paul and Phil for the support through the years.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 3, 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Chelsea, with Pastor Joe Jeffreys and Rev. Dr. Barbara Edema officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 am.    A private burial will be at Vermont Cemetery in Chelsea.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, 121 E.
