Obituaries

Of Whitmore Lake, MI, formerly of Southgate and Alpena, age 93, died Monday, November 11, 2013 in Whitmore Lake, Michigan. He was born June 15, 1920 in Roslin, Scotland, the son of Andrew & Alison (Hervey) May.


John served in the British Navy during WWII.  He retired from Stroh’s brewery as a machinist.


He married Mary Garvie in Queenboro, England on March 21, 1942, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1999. Survivors include one son, Robert (Carol) May of Trenton; two daughters, Irene May of Chelsea, Jacqueline (Gary) Maveal of Chelsea; one brother, Bob (Bette) May; one sister, Jean Loasby; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. John was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Fairgrieve; and a brother-in-law, Fred Loasby.

A memorial service was held November 23rd, 2:00 pm at Chelsea Depot, Chelsea, with Chaplain Dave Goldsmith. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 310 N. Main, Suite 100, Chelsea, MI 48118.
