of Manchester, age 82, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospice Home in Jackson. He was born July 5, 1943, in Tecumseh, Michigan, the son of Norman Ray and Erva Mae (Whelan) Kothe.
Nelson worked at the Chelsea Proving Grounds for 38 years as a driver and mechanic. He enjoyed woodworking, and loved antiques, antique engines, tractors, and classic cars.
Nelson was married to Nellie for 20 years before she preceded him in death on March 15, 2021. He is survived by his son, Jonathan (Jennifer) Kothe of Chelsea; grandchildren, Henry and Jacob; and 10 nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Kothe; sister, Lenora Ebersole; two nephews; and one niece.
No public services will be held. Burial will be at Rowe's Corner Cemetery in Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, https://www.hshv.org/. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
