Obituaries

died peacefully Sunday morning, September 18, 2022, at Chelsea Retirement community.

Rhoda was born on August 28, 1942, in Kingston, New York, the daughter of Carl William and Alma Louise Miller Nickerson. Rhoda's early years on the family farm in Saugerties, NY were defined by hard work, love of animals, family gatherings, the outdoors, gardening, and 4-H.

Later in her 50's she moved to Michigan to be near her sister, Janet Frank. She began a new adventure of living independently at the Pines, in Chelsea, Ml. Rhoda liked living in Chelsea and soon became an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She loved nothing more than trips with the Silver Streaks and women's bible study.

Curiosity, creativity and love of being around people marked her life. She was happiest with a good cup of coffee and a chat with friends. Of course, if there was a game of cards, a new puzzle, or bingo, that was even better. These were her happy days.

Survivors include her sisters, Janet Frank, Ann Arbor, MI, Marilyn (Ronald) Voigt, Oak Hill, VA, Caroline Nickerson (Frank Pensabene), Albany, NY; and brother, Carl Nickerson, Mattituck, NY. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews; and nine first cousins. Rhoda's parents, her loved younger sister, Paula, and god-daughter, Jennifer Frank, predeceased her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with Pastor Pezzica officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. and a luncheon will follow the service. Her ashes will be buried in the family plot in Kingston, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1515 S. Main St., Chelsea, MI 48118 or to UMRC & Porter Hills Foundation Employees Scholarship Fund at CRC, 805 W. Middle St., Chelsea, MI 48118.
