of Chelsea, formerly of Ann Arbor,  age 85, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born September 1, 1926 in Scio Township, Michigan (Delhi, Michigan), the son of Clifford C. and Ruth E. (Weiss) Poppenger.

Dave was a WWII Navy Veteran.  He  worked at Edward Brothers for 26 years and then at Malloy Lithographers for 15 years, retiring at age 72. A Jack-of-all-trades, he was good at carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, and he used his skills to help others. He loved playing cards, horseshoes, and fishing.  He also loved music, and enjoyed sing-a-longs.

He married Genevieve E. Richard on October 14, 1950 in Ann Arbor, and she preceded him in death on March 1, 1998. Survivors include a son, James (Diana) Poppenger of Chelsea; two daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Lavender, and Jane (Steve Vogel) Poppenger, both of Alberquerque, NM; two sisters, Emily Mosher of Delhi, and Joy Lawhead of FL; one grandson, Aaron (Amy) Lavender; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve in 1998, a son, Douglas in 2006, and 7 siblings.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 25, 2:00 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Deacon Tom Franklin officiating.  The family received friends Monday 6-8 pm and Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
