Age 85, died peacefully Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Tanglewood Assisted Living in Fenton, Michigan. He was born February 23, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Harold & Katherine (Wendelin) McConnell. He grew up in Milwaukee, and graduated from Shorewood High School in Shorewood, Wisconsin in 1955. He served two years in the US Army at Fort Lee, Virginia, from 1955-57. Gary worked for S. Abraham & Sons (SAS) in the shipping department for 40 years. Gary moved from Milwaulkee, WI, to Manchester in 1997. He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. He is first cousin to the late Rudolph Wendlin (artist for Smokey Bear).
Survivors include brother, Harold (Marcy) McConnell Jr. of Waterford; and nieces and nephews, Daniel S McConnell, Katherine M Russell, Andrew M McConnell, and Susan L Plue. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary’s ashes will be interred at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to Tanglewood Assisted Living, 19086 Tipsico Lake Road, Fenton, MI 48430 or to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 10001 W Ellsworth Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
