of Chelsea, Michigan, age 94, died Friday, February 7, 2020 in Chelsea. He was born March 6, 1925 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Norman Harold & Lenore Eva Margarita (Kalmbach) Schmidt.  Dick lived at North Lake for many years, then lived in Manchester for 17 years, returning to Chelsea in ‘95. Dick graduated from Chelsea High School in the class of 1942. Following graduation, Dick enlisted and served with the US Navy in the Pacific during WWII. Upon discharge he was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone for 36 Years. Dick was a member of St. Paul UCC, where he was a Council Member. He was also a life-long member of the Chelsea Rod & Gun club and the VFW. Dick had a love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed gardening for many years.
 
On Jun 23, 1951, he married Jean Eisenbeiser in Jackson, and she survives.  Other survivors include his children, Joan Schmidt of Ann Arbor and Jeff Schmidt of Chelsea; two sisters, Eleanor Hall and Elaine Boyce; and many nieces and nephews.
 
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12, 11:00 am at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Chelsea, with Rev. Eric Stricklin officiating.  The family will greet friends from 10-11 am prior to the service. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 14600 E Old US Highway 12, Chelsea, MI 48118.  Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel.
