Marian Schad of Dexter, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2020. She was born February 18, 1931 in Boissevain, Manitoba, Canada, to James and Annie (Dennett) Ball. As a girl growing up in England, she enjoyed running track (nicknamed “Fly”), field hockey and Girl Guides. She knitted socks for the soldiers during WWII and cared for her younger siblings when her mother passed.Marian was an active member of the Dexter Church of Christ. She steadfastly followed God since her youth and remained a faithful servant her whole life. She worked at A&P Grocery for many years. Despite hardships along the way, she never lost her fire and determination to carry on. She was tenacious, independent, and always came out of trials stronger than before.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, and hosting. Her genuine delight for company always made guests feel welcomed and loved. It was impossible to visit her home and not be blessed by her tasty cooking or baking. She will be especially remembered for her pie making and welcoming spirit.
One of her greatest sources of joy and pride was her family. She is survived by her children Guy (Cheryl) Schad of Livonia, Brian (Robin) Schad of Chelsea, Steven (Violet) Schad of Cannon Beach, Oregon, and Nancy Schad of Dexter. Other survivors include her brother, Earl (Dot) Ball, and sister, Doreen (Benny) Adair. She had seven grandchildren – Jason, Joseph, Alex, Rebecca, Annie, Emily, and Lauren – and eight great-grandchildren – Owen, Eliza, Luke, Kate, Ezra, Sam, Lucille, and Micah.
Paul’s words to Timothy aptly describe Marian’s life: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness” (2 Timothy 4:7-8). We rejoice knowing Marian is now at home with her Savior.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 25 at Dexter Church of Christ, 8700 Jackson Rd, Dexter, MI 48130. Memorial contributions may be made to Dexter Church of Christ. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
