of Chelsea, Michigan, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 with her family at her side.  She was born October 17, 1923 in Saline, Michigan, the daughter of Charles & Minnie (Visel) Kern.  Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Saline Michigan.  Arlene was a graduate of the 1941 Saline High School class and a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Chelsea. 

On October 18, 1941, Arlene married Robert F. Schroen and he preceded her in death May 7, 1994.  Survivors include two sons, David (Marie) Schroen of Mooresville NC, Duane (Hazel) Schroen of Manchester; two daughters, Susan (Grace Peters) of Sommerville, MA, Carol Schroen (Eugene Moore) of Mountainview, HI; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Liberty) Schroen, Mark (Jill) Schroen, Teresa (Steve) Lareau, Michael (Dawn) Schroen, Anna (Jonas) Stania; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces/nephews.

Arlene was a consummate home maker with skills that included: canning and freezing produce from her garden, baking and sewing.  Her love and care extended beyond immediate family to children, friends, neighbors, her church community and anyone needing a hug, a laugh or a meal.  Wintering with family in Hawaii for many years, she became “mom” to many who had moved far from home.

The family will host a Celebration of Life in Spring 2020, date and location to be announced.  Memorial contributions can be made to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor Michigan 48103 or St. Paul’s church, 14600 E. Old US Hwy 12, Chelsea MI  48118.  Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
