of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, age 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Legacy Assisted Living. He was born March 6, 1933 in Dowagiac, Michigan, the son of Everett Wayne & Rose Cornelia (Talbot) Hofmeister.

A faithful member of Faith Baptist Church, Wayne loved his Lord, his family, and his church family very much and will be sorely missed by so many. Wayne was a construction inspector for the city of Ann Arbor for many years. He served in the US Army in Korea. In recent years, he helped teach chess to many people through the Chelsea Chess Club. Wayne was known for his sense of humor.

On August 31, 1958, he married Martha J. Shanklin, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 2015. Survivors include two daughters, Janice Hofmeister, Ann (James) Hess; two grandsons, Mitchell (Carrie) Hofmeister, Roman (Rachel Blanchard) Hofmeister; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey; two great-grandsons, Ryder and Raiden; and two nieces, Pat and Terry.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Steven Hofmeister.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 31, 11:00 am at Faith Baptist Church, 4030 Kalmbach Rd., Chelsea, with Pastor Adam Summers officiating. The family will receive friends 10-11 am at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel.
