of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Ypsilanti, age 78, went to be with the Lord Friday, June 15, 2018 at Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born September 13, 1939 in Adrian, MI, the son of Nels R. Mickelson Sr., & Helen L. (Stage) Mickelson. Nels attended the Chelsea Free Methodist Church. He was a Life Member of the Masons. Nels owned a grocery store in Rawsonville, MI, and later worked as a drywall finisher. He lettered in many sports in High School, and later enjoyed watching sports, especially football and basketball. Nels loved the outdoors and hunting. Later in life, he became an avid reader.
On April 8, 1961, he married Edna E. Hudson at Forest Ave Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, and she survives. Other survivors include their children; Nels Walter “Wally” Mickelson of South Lyon, Karen Elizabeth (Mark) Bogarin of Chelsea, Kristen Carol (Ray) Rickman of Chelsea; 7 grandchildren, Jacob, Jonah, Hailey, Bryce, Natalie, Jillian, and Mackenzie; a sister; Carol L (Don) Bragg; a sister-in-law, Suzanne Mickelson; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert G. Mickelson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 4:00 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with visitation Thursday from 2-4 pm. Burial will be at Palestine Church Cemetery in Paris TN. Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Free Methodist Church or the Huron Valley Humane Society.
