of Chelsea, MI, age 93, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born April 22, 1925 in Roseville, MI, the daughter of Carl F. & Meta E. (Schuldt) Schoenberg. Viola graduated from Eastland High School in Roseville in 1944. She worked for 11 years for Briggs, which became Chrysler. She has been a member of St. Jacob Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grass Lake since 1955, and  belonged to WINGS (“Women in God's Service”) mission group at church. Most of all, Viola was a loving mother to her four children.

On June 18, 1955, she married Raymond C. Welshans in Macomb Township, MI, and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1988.  Survivors include two sons, Douglas (Robin) Welshans of Ann Arbor, Timothy (Deanne) Welshans of Dexter; two daughters, Cynthia (Bradley) Fischer of Dexter, Sandra (Kenneth) Valentine of Pinckney; a brothers-in-law, William Welshans; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Schoenberg; a sister, Eleanor Inwood a sister-in-law, Jean Bailey; and a brother-in-law, Donald Welshans.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 11:00 am at St. Jacob Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grass Lake, with Pastor Kurt Uhlenbrauck officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Jacob Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacob Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12501 Riethmiller Road, Grass Lake, MI 49240.

A lovely lady! Always enjoyed seeing her in church. She, mom & dad used to sit together at the monthly union lunches. My condolences to all of you. She will be missed.
