Geoffrey Moore Savage, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died of cancer at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor on January 17, 2018. He was 65. Geoff was born December 27, 1952, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Philip John Savage, Jr., and Justine Angela (Brady) Savage, 95, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Geoff was raised in Bloomfield Hills, where he played elaborate childhood games with his siblings, battled the family goat, and generally caused mischief. He graduated from Brother Rice High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Michigan State University in 1976.

Geoff’s great passions were people, small businesses, and play. He started his career working with the late James “Pete” Hamilton at Regal Feed & Supply in Drayton Plains, Michigan, in 1975. From there, he worked at Rochester Elevator and Shemin Nurseries before starting Frontier Distributing, Inc., with Mark E. Smith in 1986. Geoff later went on to own and operate Eva Marie’s Harbor Key restaurant in Lapeer, Michigan, and Oxford Home Garden & Pet in Oxford, Michigan, before moving to Ann Arbor in 2006. In recent years, Geoff split his time working at Ace Barnes Hardware and pitching in at the Annex of Paredown, a vintage and interior decor shop owned and operated by his partner, Brenda Brown, of Ann Arbor.

In addition to his mother Justine and partner Brenda, Geoff is survived by his daughter Mary Savage and her husband Matthew McCarty, of Royal Oak, his daughter Christine Savage and her wife Colleen Anderson, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, their mother and his second wife, Susan Savage of Waterford, as well as his siblings Peter (Sandra) Savage, Laura (J’nise Ramsey) Saylor, Timothy Savage, Brian Savage, Philip John Savage, III, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Geoff is preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia “Gigi” Carlos.

Friends and family are warmly invited to a celebration of life in Geoff’s honor on Sunday, June 24, from 12pm to 3pm at the Ann Arbor Senior Center at Burns Park, 1320 Baldwin Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. I always loved Geoff's wit, which was quick on spot on! He was a good listener and a good friend. He made a difference: what more can one ask? He is missed!
