of Chelsea, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home December 15, 2017 at the age of 83. Kathryn was born on June 16, 1934 (her own mom’s birthday) to Oswald and Lucile (Hamel) Jones in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She attended St. Andrew’s Elementary School and Grand Rapids Catholic Central where she graduated in 1952. She attended Mercy School of Nursing in Detroit, where she received her R.N. degree. Kathryn met the love of her life, Henry “Bud” Roggenbeck on a blind date in 1956. The two wed on January 12, 1957 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Grand Rapids. Together they raised four children. Kathryn was compassionate, loving, witty, and always put family before herself. She loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. Kathryn was the ultimate grandma, and loved playing games, doing craft projects, and attending their games and orchestra concerts. The time spent with her grandkids was very precious to her and filled her with joy.

Kathryn had a great love of music and was an amazing piano player. There was always music playing in her home. She delighted in seeing many of her favorites perform live in concert, including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Cleo Laine. She passed on this passion for music to her children. Kathryn loved helping others and had a very kind, nurturing heart, which was evident by her work as a pediatric Registered Nurse for over 30 years. In her retirement years, she volunteered with the Literacy Program in Grand Rapids, Catholic Social Services, and sang in the church choir.

She is survived by her devoted loving husband of 60 years, who was her champion in her final days and always, Henry “Bud” Roggenbeck; her children, Paul, Christine (Sean) Skiver, and James; and her grandchildren, Trisha, Kevin, Erik, Justin, Caroline, and Alexandra. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael James; her parents; her siblings, Russ, Bob, Helen, Jim, Gordon, and Tom. The family would like to give a special thanks to Arbor Hospice and Bert Phelan for their compassionate care.
