of Chelsea, Michigan, age 95, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 24, 1922, in Salyersville, Kentucky, the son of Rollie and Addie (Cooper) Collinsworth. He was one of 12 children. He worked on the family farm before joining the Army to serve in WWII in December of 1942. In WWII, he served overseas with the 729 Military Police Battalion. In September of 1949, he moved to Chelsea, Michigan. He retired from Rockwell after more than 30 years in 1983. For decades, he marched in the Chelsea Memorial Day Parade and the Fair Parade and was a Life Member of the VFW Post 4076. Dooley loved to laugh and tell stories of his life’s adventures. He had a smile for everybody. He loved watching sports, especially the Detroit Tigers.
He is survived by his siblings Luke (Sue) Collinsworth of Chelsea, Mary (Arnold) Higgins of Tennessee, and Jean (Bob) Castle of Indiana; three nieces and nephews: Jimmy Collinsworth of Chelsea, Debbie (Randy) Ellis of Chelsea, Carrie (John) Garrison of Pennsylvania, four grand nieces and nephews: Jamie Westcott Collinsworth (Nik Lulgjuraj), Jimmy Lee Collinsworth, Melissa (Derek) Eaton, and Travis Garrison. He was preceded in death by his siblings Clifford Collinsworth, Sr., Harold Collinsworth, Katherine Eisele, Guy Roark, Anna Borders, Ben Roark, Wannie Allen, an infant sister Betty Lou, his nephew Donald Ray Collinsworth, and his grandnephew Clifford R. Collinsworth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Stephen Hohl officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Sylvan Township. The family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Chelsea Post 31, 1700 Ridge Rd, Chelsea, MI 48118.
