of Chelsea, passed away at the age of 86 on September 8, 2017 with loving family by his side. Robert, the son of Ishmael and Mildred (Turnquist) Butler, was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 2, 1931. He grew up in Livonia, graduated from Plymouth High School, and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. On August 20, 1955, he married Doris Gilson and moved to Chelsea. Robert worked for Dana Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling, fishing, visiting casinos, and spending time at their cabin in northern Michigan.

 Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Jay (Debbie) Butler, Lois (Keith) Hume; his grandchildren,  Brandon (Heather) Butler, Amy Butler, Kyle (Andrea) Butler, Jill (Matt) Smithkey, Joseph Hume, Bobby Vasas, Shaun (Barb) Vasas, Billy (Ashley) Vasas, Brittany Moore; great-grandchildren, Luke, Weston, Cora, Caitlynn, Preston, Jerry, Katlynn, Sophie; nephews, John (Judy) Ayers, David Schroeder, Tom (Rhonda) Schroeder; and sister-in-law Marjorie Ferry. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Alvin Butler and June (Floyd) Schroeder.


Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
