of Chelsea, Michigan, age 94, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born July 6, 1917 in Bridgewater, Michigan, the daughter of Jacob and Yetta (Traub) Maurer.

Marion graduated from Manchester High School in 1935. She was a bookkeeper. She loved to travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Her hobbies were flowers in the yard and in the house, and she enjoyed playing cards Marion loved to quilt and each of her family have a hand made quilt. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Emmanuel United Church of Christ of Manchester, where her great grandfather, John Haschley, was a founding member. Her grandfather, Martin Traub, placed the ball on top of the steeple. In 1975, the Shorts transferred to Pinckney United Church of Christ where Marion was President of the Ladies Aid for two terms.  In 1970, her husband organized the Livingston Gem and Mineral Society of which Marion served as President for two years.

On Dec. 28, 1940, she married Nelson Short, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include a son James (Lynn) Short of Linden; a daughter, Marilyn (William) Davis of  Bradenton, FL; five grandsons, Jason (Amy) Davis, Sgt James (Anna) Davis, Joel (Laurie) Davis, Matthew (Laurie) Short, and Evan Short; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Decker and Melissa (John) Pecka; 6 step-great-grandchildren and a step-great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant brother, Ronald Maurer.


Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 24, 10:00 am at the Chelsea Retirement Community main chapel,  visitation was Monday 9-10 am. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manchester.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the UMRC Heritage Foundation, 805 West Middle Street, Chelsea, Michigan 48118.
