Chelsea, Michigan, age 89, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Monday, June 16, 2014 at her home. She was born November 29, 1924, the youngest of four daughters, in Schlangendorf, Ukraine, to Johannes and Elfreida (Schmidt) Gerok.

After the death of her parents in the early 1930s she moved to Germany. Helene immigrated to the United States, with her husband and daughter Gabriela, in 1956. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chelsea.  A woman of strong faith, one of the highlights of her life was traveling to the Holy Land, with her husband in 1994, and being baptized in the Jordan River.

 On January 6, 1951, she married Nikolaus Gugenheimer in Nurtingen am Neckar, West Germany. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2009. Survivors include her daughter, Gabriela (David) McCubbrey of Ann Arbor; her granddaughters, Alexandra (Erin Dreps) & Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Ralf.

   A celebration of her life was held Thursday, June 19, at 2:30pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Chelsea, Michigan with Rev. Dale Grimm officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor Russian Mission for orphans, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
