of Chelsea, Michigan  formerly of East Jordan, Michigan, age 83, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at home with his family. He was born March 25, 1930 in East Jordan, Michigan, the son of Ingwald & Mabel (Maddocks) Olson.

   On October 13, 1955 he married Margaret Jane Scott in Petoskey, and she survives. Donald was in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, where he was an airplane mechanic and instructor. He attended Cal. Aero. Tech. Donald installed elevators for 35 years, working for several companies including OTIS and Haughton-Schindler. He was a member of the VFW in Iron River. Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing at his home on the Jordan River.

   He was a family man, and the best “Pa” in the world to a daughter, Lynn Olson of Chelsea; a son, Jim (Karen) Wicker of Hamburg; 9 grandchildren, James, Kenneth, Jeffrey, Mindy, Jenna, Sheri, Kimberly, Jon and Krista; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a special son-in-law and daughter-in-law Doug & Phyllis “Jeannie” Sumner. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Olson, and a daughter, Marjean Laws.

The family will hold a memorial service in the spring at their home on the Jordan River. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ann Arbor Veteran Affairs Office. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
