Age 83, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center in Ann Arbor. He was born April 18, 1930 in Dearborn, Michigan , the son of Hans & Gertrude (Krebsbach) Engels.

Gilbert worked for Detroit Edison for 18 years. He was the owner of Eastland Honda stores and Engelswood Power Tools. He loved to go boating on the Great Lakes and Lake St. Clair with his wife.

On April 18, 1930, he married Shirley A. St. Arnaud in Detroit, and she survives.  Other survivors include two sons, Gregory (Carol) Engels of Richmond, Christopher Engels of Grosse Pointe Woods; three daughters, Linda Engels of Houston, TX, Patti (Martin) Redick of Dexter, Sue (Brian) Dooms of Grosse Pointe; 8 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services for Mr. Engels were private.  Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or the Animal Rescue of your choice.  Arrangements were handled by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
