of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Onsted, age 95, died Friday, May 31, 2013 at Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born February 21, 1918 in Bristol, PA, the son of Michael & Eva (Piskor) Dick.

John graduated from Bristol High School in Bristol, PA in 1936 where he was a star baseball player for the now defunct Bristol Bunnies.  He also played baseball for the Rohm and Haas Company in Bristol. He was a salesman for Detroit Stoker Company, a job that gave him the opportunity to travel extensively around the world.  He was an expert woodworker, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, clock repair, and traveling around the country with his wife, Betty, after he retired. He was a loving husband and father and excelled at being a grandfather.  He was adored by his grandchildren with whom he spent countless happy hours.

In 1940, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Smoyer, and she preceded him in death on October 19, 2010. Survivors include a son, John (Nancy) of Monument, CO; two daughters,  Susan (James Pence) Smoyer of Amity, OR, and Elizabeth (Timothy) Polk of Manchester; four grandchildren, James Polk, Anna Polk, Jennifer Wegher, and Stephanie Dick; and his brother, Joseph Dick of NJ. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Stanley; four sisters, Mary Krempeke, Kathryn Sedor, Annie Kurko, and Helen Dick.  John was also preceded in death by his faithful cat Pumpkin who died only two weeks ago.  He is survived by his cat, KC, who remains in residence at Chelsea Retirement Community.  He also leaves behind his loving adopted family who are the staff at Towsley Village and Chelsea Retirement Community.

A memorial service  was held Saturday, June 8, 2:00 pm at the Chelsea Retirement Community Main Chapel, with Rev. Cathy Rafferty officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee County Humane Society, 705 W Beecher St  Adrian, MI 49221. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.

I would to extend my condolence to the family of John Lawrence Dick. The pain, the grief, and the feeling of helplessness can seem unbearable. At such times, we need to go to God's word for comfort. Please read God's word at 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, John 5:28-29, Psalms 37:11,29, 102:17,Acts 24:15, Revelation 21:1-4, I hope reading these scripture , bring your family much comfort
