Al Logelin died May 4, 2013, at the V.A. Ann Arbor Healthcare System. Al Logelin, age 88, was born January 17, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN and raised in Winona, MN. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, on a destroyer escort stationed in the Philippines. He earned his degree in physics from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Al was a well-known businessman around Ann Arbor, owning and operating audio and electronic shops for over 50 years. He was a long-time member of the Ann Arbor Schwaben (German- American) Club, and most enjoyed times spent at The Old German restaurant where he often prepared early morning breakfasts for Chef Dettling and the kitchen staff. Al enjoyed good times in the company of his many friends, good food and wine, computers and the internet.

He is preceded in death by his very best friends Bud Metzger and Joan Otis, both of Ann Arbor, (and of course, Sammy, his bull dog), and parents, Joseph and Catherine (Widmer) Logelin of Winona; sisters Jeanette Schuh of Rolingstone, MN and Lucille Cichanowski of Winona. He is survived by two brothers, Joe (Helen) Logelin of Ann Arbor and Don (Lois) of La Crosse, WI; two sisters, Kathryn (John) Degnan of La Crosse, WI and Clarice Bidney of Shoreview, MN; along with 23 nieces and nephews, all who mourn his loss.

A memorial gathering was held at The Grotto, 2070 W. Stadium Blvd, An Arbor on June 1, from 3-6PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, Voluntary Service Office, Main Hospital Building, Room AB-28, 2215 Fuller Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105. Arrangements are being handled by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
