Age 79, died of pulmonary fibrosis on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 under the wonderful care of the staff at the Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born October 30, 1933 in Muskegon, Michigan, the daughter of Abraham S. & Dorothy M. (Edick) St. Amand.


Julia was very active in the Greek Orthodox Church in Muskegon.  She was politically active, and worked many elections in Cedar, MI. Julia loved music, she was the first female drummer in the Muskegon High School Band.  She also loved boating, fishing, reading and ceramics.  Julia was a very loving grandmother.


She married John J. Courtis on Jan. 25, 1959, and he preceded her in death on May 6, 1974.  She married Chuck Smith on Feb. 12, 1977, and he survives. Other survivors include a son, John (Brenda) Courtis of Cedar, MI; two daughters, Francine (Timothy) Egeler of Dexter, Marina (Bill) Kaufman of Dexter; 5 grandchildren, Katy, Jacob, Julia, Madelyn, Zachary; 4 step-grandchildren, Danielle, Nicole, Dayna, Brandon; and 4 step-children, Debbie, Katherine, Sharon, Charles Jr., and their children and grandchildren.


A memorial service was held Monday, April 22, 11:00 am at Silver Maples with Rev. Kathy Schell officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Arbor Hospice.  Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
