of Chelsea, Michigan, age 84, died peacefully Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Evangelical Home in Saline. He was born December 8, 1928 in Edon, Ohio, the son of Earl L. & Clara H. (Walz) Young.


Don graduated from Edon High School in 1946.  He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.  Don earned his Bachelors in Business Administration and a Bachelors in Education from Bowling Green State University.  He went on to earn his Masters in Education from Bowling Green, and did additional work at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN.  Don was a teacher for 33 years, most recently at Beach Middle School, retiring in 1991. He worked on numerous school committees and projects, and was an active member and Vice President of MESSA.  Don belonged to Zion Lutheran Church

On December 24, 1950, he married Betty E. Foust, and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Pat (Stanley) Parr of Manchester; two sons, John “Randy” Young of Chelsea, Thomas (Joan) Young of Canton, OH; two sisters, Donna Stickney and Gloria (Willie) Anderson; 4 grandchildren, Emily (Jeff) McHale, Zachary (Jenna) Young, Stephanie and Nicholas Young; one great-granddaughter, Aranka McHale.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd, and a sister, Mary Jane Sinclair.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 2, 11:00 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Rev. Stanley J. Eckermann officiating.  Burial followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Chelsea.  The family  received friends Friday, 3-5 & 6-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Parkinson Foundation.
