of Dexter, MI, age 101, died peacefully Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in her home with her family at her side. She was born October 22, 1911 in Grape, Michigan ( in Monroe County), the daughter of Friedrich & Louise Augusta (Fischer) Colvia.

 


Betty  has lived in Dexter since 1946, coming from Detroit.  She was the Mid-Michigan Circuit Secretary for the Lutheran Women's Mission Society.  As an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Betty mailed cards to church visitors, and sent birthday cards and letters to church members.

On Oct. 26, 1929, she married Brenton W. Schultz in Taylor, Michigan, and he preceded her in death on  March 22, 1986. Survivors include a son, Brenton (Marcella) Schultz of Petoskey; a daughter, Marielayne Tenpenny (Raymond) Newell of Dexter; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.  In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by Brenton Jr.’s twin, Robert; and grandson, Jessie; and three sisters, Elva Johnsen, Clara Ferry, and Elma Dove.

Funeral service was held Saturday, February 9, 10:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church, 9575 N Territorial Rd, Dexter, with Rev. Mark Porinsky officiating.  Burial took place at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor.  The family received friends at Cole Funeral Chapel Friday 2-4 & 6-8 pm and at the church Saturday 9:30-10 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
