of Horton, Michigan, 61, formerly of Napoleon, died Nov. 30, 2012, at Eaton Community Palliative Care. Born Dec. 11, 1950, in Watervliet, Michigan, he was the son of Keith H. and Florence E. (Heim) Lightner.

He was a member of the Grass Lake Class of 1969 and attended Wittenburg University in Ohio. He worked for Federal Screw in Chelsea, Pittsfield Products in Ann Arbor, as a plant manager at DC Products in Hanover, and as a driver for Taylor Postal Trucking. He also maintained a lawn care service. Lyle cultivated a love of farming throughout his life, including farming in Sylvan Township and collecting Farmall tractors. He also loved history and enjoyed piecing together his family’s genealogy. Lyle was a loving father, beloved uncle, and good friend.

He is survived by his son, Travis Lightner of Ann Arbor; a sister, Joyce (Paul) Easter of Vandercook Lake; two brothers, Dan (Georgia) of Jackson, James (Debra) of Springport; numerous nieces and nephews; and Mary Ruth (Horsefall), whom he married in 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary.

A Funeral Mass was held Monday, Dec. 3, at 11:00 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea, with Rev. Dr. William Turner and Fr. David W. Harvey, Lyle’s cousin, officiating. The family  received friends an hour before the Mass. Burial  followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea. Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Palliative Care, 2675 South Cochran Road, Charlotte, MI 48813. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
