of Chelsea, Michigan, age 76, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. She was born September 23, 1935 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Byford J. & Lois F. (Smith) Speer.


Dorothy graduated from Chelsea High School in 1953.  She worked for Rockwell Spring (while still in High School), University of Michigan Hospital, King Seeley, and then for Chrysler for 35 years, retiring in August of 1992.  She enjoyed bowling, and traveled with the “Grandma's Club” from Chrysler.

She married Samuel E. Vangor on July 23, 1983, and he survives. Other survivors include two sons, Larry Sweet of Chelsea, Jeff (Bonnie) Sweet of Stockbridge; four step-daughters, Bonnie Chase, Vicki (Rob) Wagner, Debbie (Jeff) Frank, Terrie (Mike) Gillenwaters; three brothers, Gary, Bill (Diane), & Jack Speer; a sister, Barbra (Don) Fritz; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Speer; two sisters: Dianne  Rose, Judy Palmer; and an infant son Randy.

A memorial service was held be held Saturday, July 7, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Pastor Steven L. Kincer officiating. Burial took place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Arbor Hospice.
