of Chelsea, Michigan, age 76, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at University of Michigan Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born January 28, 1936 in Detroit , the son of Elmer C. & Anitra C. (French) DeSmyther.


Gale retired from Chelsea Proving Grounds.  He was very involved in many churches including Chelsea Baptist Church, Immanuel Bible Church. He currently attended Mt. Hope Bible Church.  Gale was involved with Youth for Christ.  He liked to fish, ride dune buggies and travel.
On October 27, 1956, he married Dorothy Jean Young in Chelsea and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, David DeSmyther, and Dan (Angela) DeSmyther both of Chelsea; two daughters, Debra (Jim) West of Waco, TX, and Dianne (Matt) Dobos of Waterloo, MI; and ten grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 29, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Bible Church with Joseph A. O'Neill officiating.  Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Waterloo.  The family received friends at Cole Funeral Chapel Thursday from 1-4 & 6-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
