Age 87, of Gregory, MI, formerly of Ann Arbor, MI 

Dr. David Gill Logan passed away peacefully Thursday, July 7, 2022, at his home on North Lake. He was born February 15,1935 in Ann Arbor, the son of Albert James and Frances Treat (Gill) Logan.

David graduated from University High School in Ann Arbor, MI in 1953. He then attended Oberlin College in Ohio, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1957. From 1957 to 1961, he attended Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Medical School graduating Alpha Omega Alpha in 1961. David served in the Army Medical Corps in Tokyo, Japan from 1963-1966, where he received the US Armed Forces Commendation Medal. On return to the US, he moved his young family to Cleveland, where he entered a residency in psychiatry at CWRU later joining the faculty as an assistant professor of psychiatry.

While at CWRU, Dr. Logan served as director of the Clinical Science Program from 1975-1980. From 1969 to 1975, he was the Director of Psychiatry at the Cleveland Free Clinic. In 1970, he opened a small pilot clinic treating heroin addicts with methadone. Subsequently, he opened the City of Cleveland Methadone Program, which eventually treated over 15,000 heroin addicts. In 1981, he moved to Ann Arbor, where he opened a private practice in psychiatry specializing in the treatment of alcoholism and addiction. David held weekly lectures on identification and treatment of alcoholism and teen drug abuse. He loved his profession and gained tremendous satisfaction helping people suffering from mental health disorders, getting alcoholic families into AA, evaluating and treating adolescents involved with drugs.

Upon retirement, David and his wife Linda, moved to Chelsea, MI, to live on North Lake, a property his family owned since 1938.

Golf was David’s favorite pastime. At Oberlin College, he served as captain of the golf team and continued playing well into his 80s. He also loved woodworking and particularly enjoyed making
heirlooms for his grandchildren. He was a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church. David was a compassionate, generous, humble, quiet, loving and kind man. He lived his entire life with
tremendous integrity and devotion to his family and his career.

David is survived by his wife, Linda, four children, Kathleen (Brent) Rundquist of Minneapolis, MN, Keith (Laurie) Logan of Cleveland Heights, OH, Amy (Michael) Johnston of Addison, VT, Grace (David) Savercool of Chelsea, MI and his two stepsons, Robert (Laurel) Howe of New Canaan, CT, Bradley (Jennifer) Howe of Minneapolis, MN; and his brother, Robert Logan of Santa Barbara, CA; 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Frances and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Logan.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea First United Methodist Church or Growth Works, Plymouth, MI.
