of Chelsea, MI, age 88, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born June 13, 1923 in Greenville, Michigan, the son of Rolla S. and Rachel Bessie (Eubank) Pierce.

 

Bill lived in Europe for 30 years before coming to Chelsea in July 1988.  He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years, and fought in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.  Bill was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Military Order of Purple Heart.


Survivors include two nieces, Rebecca Freeman of Pinckney, Ruth Freeman of League City, TX; a  nephew, Bill (Ann) Freeman of Green Bay, WI; a great-nephew, David Stone of Chelsea and his daughter, Piper Stone; three great-nieces, Rachel Stone of League City, TX, Emily & Rebecca Freeman of Green Bay, WI.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Freeman and  Maxine Burris.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 15, 10 am at the Chelsea Retirement Community, with Rev. Cathy Rafferty officiating.  The family received friends at the chapel from 9-10 am Tuesday. Burial took place at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek.  Memorial contributions may be made to VFW National Home for Children, 3573 S Waverly Rd, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827.  Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel.
